WHY MONOTYPES?
I create monotypes to focus on the simple shapes and colours of the landscape. I start the monotype process by applying a layer of gum arabic to a non absorbent surface such as plexi glass or mylar.
I begin the painting process by rolling or brushing on the paint and then either draw or remove some of the paint to create the desired effect.
After I dampen the paper I use a wooden spoon or rolling pin to apply pressure to the back of the plexi. Monotypes usually have a distinctive and unique look. Although "printed",
monotypes are originals and there are no copies.
