Back to Painting - First Oil Painting

I went and splurged on oil paints yesterday and did a quick study of my son playing with my daughter's dog "Brutis"

It’s something that I have been wanting to do for awhile, but I’m also finding it a little more challenging than acrylics, so any tips or advice would be welcome.

This is wonderful, Patricia. You so beautifully captured the light and movement of the scene.

No advice on oils though, sorry. I tried them and didn't like them at all. Different strokes...

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks Suzanne, I think I need more patience and probably a few more colours:).

I think this is wonderful ... so full of motion ... life and color. Reminds me of some of the Impressionist paintings that I've been viewing ... exploring ... revisiting of late. Love it! : )

Does not look to me that you need any advice whatsoever! This is an exceptional painting. I like that painted it with a strong bold design. First rate.

Thanks, Michelle & Celeste for your comments. I'm not used to the fact that the painting is still not dry, it's a learning curve. I've painted a couple more, but they've been wiped clean:(.

What a lovely painting! What I really like about your work is the light and dark contrast - it gives them such a dynamic feel. I too can't comment on oils, I've tried the water-soluble ones, but didn't like how long they took to dry. I'm too impatient, so acrylics are better for me...

Thanks for your comment Lisa, I've seen your acrylics and you have a wonderful style, very luminous!
